Kandilli Campus essentially houses the traditional functions of the Kandilli Observatory, which was founded in 1868 and then annexed to Bogazici University in 1982, and the functions of the new institute of earthquake research were created after this annexation. The proper name of the academic body that encompasses both functions is Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute.

The academic units located within the Kandilli Campus are (in alphabetical order):

• Department of Earthquake Engineering
• Department of Geodesy
• Department of Geophysics

The Laboratories and Research Centers located within the Kandilli Campus are:

• Astrophysics and Solar Physics Laboratory
• Geomagnetism Laboratory
• Meteorology Laboratory
• Seismology Laboratory

In addition to the units above, the Bogazici University-Tubitak Theoretical Physics Institute is also housed in the Kandilli Kampüs.
