The graduate program offers a course of study leading to the Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in management information systems. It focuses on providing a balance between technical skills and knowledge of business processes. The aim of the graduate program is to give students a thorough knowledge of the field and to provide an enduring foundation for future professional growth where the emphasis is on introducing improvements in academic research.

The program accepts applicants from various backgrounds who are interested in information systems and their applications in management. Successful applicants without prior experiences in information systems or management take one semester foundation courses. The graduate program is designed to be completed in four semesters. The students are required to take a minimum of 9 courses (24 credits) in two semesters and submit an M.A. Thesis.

Information and information system concepts. Basic components and functions of computers. Information systems technologies and telecommunications. Fundamentals and types of information systems. Basic principles of algorithm development and programming. Implementation of the concepts through a programming language. Introduction to object oriented and visual programming.

Principles and concepts of financial and cost accounting, steps in the accounting cycle, preparation of financial statements. Organizations and decision making. Components of Decision Support Systems (DSS): Databases, model management, communication and user interfaces. Filtering, compiling, transformation and reforming appropriate data. Knowledgebase, datawarehouses, data mining. Expert systems mechanism and uncertainty factors, multi-criteria decision making, system dynamics and simulation, group DSS, executive information systems. Designing, implementation and evaluation of DSS. Impact of developing technologies on decision making processes. Application projects.

MIS 542 Data Mining Concepts and Techniques (3+1+0) 3 ECTS 6

Advanced topics of data mining: evaluation of model accuracy, mining multidimensional data analysis, data visualization techniques, mining from special and multimedia databases, sequential pattern mining, Similarity search in databases, text mining and web mining. Computation of data cubes, indexing On-line Analytical Process (OLAP) data, and processing of OLAP queries.

Representation and modeling of stochastic systems using discrete event and continuous methodologies. Emphasis on verification, validation and interpretation of outputs. Electronic business models, major characteristics and analysis of the economics and strategies of e-business systems. Opportunities, threats, and sources of competitive advantage for e-business models and applications, identification of new business opportunities, differences between conventional and networked organizations. Organizational transformation and integration of manufacturing, distribution, finance, purchasing, and marketing transactions based on e-business models, special applications such as supply and value chain management.
