MASTER OF ARTS PROGRAM
The Department of Translation and Interpreting offers
a program leading to an M.A. Degree in Translation. The program is designed
to accommodate students with different qualifications as well as graduates
of the Department, offering them theoretical study in addition to further
practice in translation. It aims to prepare students for careers in translation,
editing, academic research, and teaching.
The program is open to all candidates with an undergraduate degree and
proficiency in English and Turkish as well as one other language. Candidates
for admission must fulfill the requirements specified in the Regulations
of the Institute of Social Sciences.
To fulfill the requirements of the M. A. Degree in Translation, students
must complete a total of 25 credits of course work, including a translation
project and a scholarly thesis submitted in standard format.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY PROGRAM
The Ph.D. program in Translation Studies aims to encourage
and promote research and scholarship in all fields related to translation,
including the history of translation in Turkey.
Candidates for admission must be competent in a third language (in addition
to Turkish and English) approved by the Department and must fulfill all
other requirements specified in the Regulations of the Institute of Social
Sciences.
Students entering the program from outside the Department may be required
to take certain prerequisite courses specified by the Department.
The program requires the successful completion of 8 courses (24 credits),
followed by a qualifying examination, the submission of a Ph.D. dissertation,
and the oral defense of the latter.

Ample translation practice to enhance skills in interpreting linguistic
and cross-cultural complexities in the source text, and in reconstructing
them in the target text. Emphasis on translation studies terminology and
the use of all available reference sources.

the translation of a wide variety of texts. Special emphasis on drama.
