An introductory course in modern Western Armenian: the Armenian alphabet,
elementary vocabulary and simple grammatical forms. Elementary readings.

Basic knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and syntax. Readings of selected
passages of Armenian texts.

Study of the leading 20th century French modernist poets and writers with
special attention to developments in contemporary French literature (Sartre
and existentialism; Camus and the philosophy of the Absurd; Absurd Theatre:
Beckett, Ionesco; Nouveau Roman: Robbe-Grillet, Butor; Nouvelle Critique:
Barthes and others; French literary semiology and the Paris School: Greimas
and others). Improvement of written and oral expression in French through
presentations and written assignments.
