The Department of Physical Education is a non-degree
granting department, offering courses to all undergraduate students.
The physical education courses are and practical. They
cover a wide range of sports. The instructors are all specialists in their
branches.
Most of the courses are beginners classes. The department
also provides the necessary equipment for the courses. In some branches,
there are also advanced sections.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
PE 101 Step I (Step I) (0+1+2) 1
Fundamentals and practice of basic step techniques: V, lift, basic, top-up,
top-down, geared to improve both cardiovascular and muscular endurance.
PE 101 Step II (Step II) (0+1+2) 1
"Power step", a dynamic exercise program. How to "power
the moves", by developing new combinations and paterns. Methods behind
step techniques and musical coordination of some more advance steps like
L, T and turn corner to corner.
PE 103 Fitness I (Kondisyon ve Guc I) (0+1+2) 1
Techniques of working with weights, achieving of general and maximum strength
and endurance. The use of both own body weight and additional weights
in completing a series of exercises, consisting of thirty different stations,
geared to gain physical and phychological strength and endurance.
PE 104 Fitness II (Kondisyon ve Guc II) (0+1+2) 1
The principles of station and circuit trainings and trainings for acquisiton
of special strength and endurance for specific branches of sports.
PE 107 Yoga and Relaxation Techniques I (0+1+2) 1
(Yoga ve Gevseme Teknikleri I)
Principles of KARMA yoga for relaxation techniques and development of
the resperation
system.
PE 108 Yoga and Relaxation Techniques II (0+1+2) 1
(Yoga ve Gevseme Teknikleri II)
Mediation by using RAJA yoga.
PE 111 Aerobic I (Aerobik I) (0+1+2) 1
General principles of low impact exercises, including non-ballistic aerobic
movements which minimize joint stress. Added light hand held weight work
to develop strength.
PE 112 Aerobic II (Aerobik II) (0+1+2) 1
Aerobic exercises like march, kick and hop. General principles of low
ad high impact exercises. A mixture of ballistic and non-ballistic movements
to give a safe challening workout and to develop fluidity of motion and
cardiovascular strength.
PE 113 Aerobic Dance I (Aerobik Dans I) (0+1+2) 1
A dynamic and rythmic exercise class, combining basic dance and aerobic
movements to teach funky, hip-hop, salsa, cha-cha and similar dans techniques.
Rhythmic movements, low impact.
PE 114 Aerobic Dance II (Aerobik Dans II) (0+1+2)

Modern moves to classical groove. A high impact class, which incorparates
the movement awareness of modern dance. Cardiovascular edurance.
PE 117 Badminton I (Badminton I) (0+1+2) 1
Fundamentals and practice of basic badminton techniques: wrist works and
forehand, backhand, drop and smash techniques.
PE 118 Badminton II (Badminton II) (0+1+2) 1
Techniques like forehand, backhand, drop smash applied in singles, doubles
and mixed doubles games.
PE 119 Basketball I (Basketbol I) (0+1+2) 1
Training in fundamentals of basketball. Introduction to offensive and
defensive moves in 2 on 2 and 3 on 3 settings.
PE 120 Basketball II (Basketbol II) (0+1+2) 1
Advanced tecniques of basketball. Introduction to team offensive and defense
systems. Practice and training in different offensive and defensive settings.
PE 121 Soccer I (Basketbol I) (0+1+2) 1
Fundamental rules and practice of basic soccer techniques: dribbling,
passing, stopping and shooting.
PE 122 Soccer II (Basketbol II) (0+1+2) 1
Advanced techniques of soccer and systems: (4-4-2), (3-5-2), (3-4-3).
Introduction to team and defense systems. Practice and training in different
offensive and defensive strategies.
PE 123 Tennis I (Tenis I) (0+1+2) 1
Fundamentals and practice of basic tennis techniques: forehand, backhand
and the combination of those two strikes.
PE 124 Tennis II (Tenis II) (0+1+2) 1
Advanced techniques of tennis: ground strokes, servers, volleys, and game
strategies.
PE 125 Volleyball I (Voleybol I) (0+1+2) 1
Fundamental rules and practice of basic volleyball techniques: block,
underhand pass, over-arm, pass and serve.
PE 126 Volleyball II (Voleybol II) (0+1+2) 1
Advanced techniques of volleyball. Introduction to team offense and defense
systems. Practice and training in different offensive and defensive settings.
PE 127 Wrestling I (Güres I) (0+1+2) 1
Fundamental rules of wrestling and practice of basic wrestling techniques:
arm-drag, cross-buttock, lifting holds.
PE 128 Wrestling II (Güres II) (0+1+2) 1
Techniques of Free and Greco-Roman wrestling and defensive and strategic
wrestling techniques.
PE 129 Self Defense Sports I (Savunma Sporlari I)
(0+1+2) 1
The basics of Teak-wan-do and Aikido self-defense techniques. Teak-wan-do:
hand and foot techniques like Palhagi and Chirigi and defense and counter
attack positions. Aikido: holding and hitting techniques for self-defense.

Combinations of Teak-wan-do techniques; combinations of Aikido techniques.
PE 137 Latin-Aero Dance I (Latin-Aero Dans I) (0+1+2)

Fundamentals and practice of basic international latin dance techniques:
Poise, footwork, hip movements, bounces, rhythmic interpretations. Preparation
of body for Latin dance techniques through aerobics and stretching exercises.
Musical coordination of arms, legs, and feet with dynamic latin choreographies.
PE 138 Latin-Aero Dance II (Latin-Aero Dans II) (0+1+2)

Advanced techniques of Latin dancing. Developing fluidity of motion and
cardiovasular strength with different combinations of Latin dance steps.
High impact exercises.
PE 141 Elementary Swimming (Yuzmeye Giris) (0+0+3)

Basic principles of swimming techniques: ability to float, breath holding,
elementary backstroke, front crawl, sidestroke and aquatic safety skills.
PE 142 Advanced Swimming (Ileri Yuzme) (0+0+3) 1
General and advanced principles of swimming: refinement of strokes (front,
back crawl, elementary backstroke), introduction to breaststroke, turns
and survival skills.

Fundamental rules and drills of futsal techniques: dribbling, passing,
shooting and stopping

Practice of advanced futsal techniques: (2-2), (3-1), (1-2-1). Introduction
to different offensive and defensive strategies.

(PE 150 Afrika Dansi )
Fundamentals and practice of African dance techniques: Poise, footwork,
polyrhythm, polycentric movements of torso/hip/arm/shoulder/head. Introduction
to dances, music, and culture of West Africa. Warming-up exercises, Developing
the sense of rhythm. Learning the connection between drum, rhythm, and
music.
